Like their namesakes, "Crocs" have been around forever, they're tough as nails and stand the test of time. The instep strap is now triple-bartacked BioThane webbing, and an additional tab holds down the front opening. The fitted design and durable, waterproof fabrics are the standard for which all gaiters are judged.

There may be lighter gaiters, but for ice climbing the crocodiles take a beating season after season. This is my fourth pair in almost 40 years of climbing.

Worn with most of my boots, they leave a gap that allows deep snow to pack inside the gaiter against the ankle of boots while hiking. They are also too long. realizing some of this is down to sizing, but the only sizing guide bases it off of shoe size. They do keep the bottom of my pants a lot dryer though. If the bottoms of these are only meant for mountaineering boots, the description should say so.

Great for when you need lower pant protection without having to put on an outer waterproof layer
